LuxuryMade, a showcase for the best of the bespoke products from the world of design, made its debut at the London Design Festival 2016. It heralds a highly selective approach to luxury design events. LuxuryMade is being hosted within unique setting, some of which has been hidden from public view for over 20 years: Olympia’s Pillar Halls.

With just 50 of the very best manufacturers showcasing contemporary decorative and luxury furnishings, furniture, fabrics, lighting and accessories, LuxuryMade focused attention on exceptional design, quality and inspiration.

Bespoke interior experts Maddux Creative were recruited to design a unique interior look, befitting of the illustrious grandeur of the venue as well as the unique array of exhibitors. Setting the tone of LuxuryMade, the space was sumptuously draped and carpeted, featuring a series of backdrops as well as specially-created vignettes of products from a selection of the top names in the luxury interiors industry.

Maddux Creative also collaborated with The Royal School of Needlework (RSN) who showcased various techniques of hand embroidery at LuxuryMade. Situated at the entrance of the Lower Pillar Hall, one group of students created new concepts for window treatments, fashioning curtain headers, and manipulating fabric to add fullness and drape. Another team of students recreated the motif of the Lower Pillar Hall’s decorative ceiling onto a rectangular panel. The third group of embroiderers drew inspiration from the intricate cornice and architraves of the Upper Pillar Hall for new pieces based on beautiful Victorian Stumpwork.

From the tiered design of the Perrier Jouet Champagne Bar in the Lower Pillar Hall, to the elegantly understated lounge arrangement in the Upper Pillar Hall’s balcony, the result was a luxurious venue. Between exclusive opportunities to meet with the designers themselves, as well as a live embroidery installation provided by the Royal School of Needlework, the first edition of LuxuryMade received an exceptional response from the public and design industry.

Among those exhibiting are several design brands: Bazaar Velvet, a modern rug design company, offers stunning collections of contemporary rugs made using the centuries-old method of hand knotting.  Cassina is pioneering the future of furniture design and continually shows an inclination for research and innovation. Globally renowned for its carpentry, Cassina centres all of its designs on the traditional craft, while fusing it with technological skill. Then there is Zimmer + Rohde, established in 1899 and still under ownership of the founding family. For their exquisitely crafted contemporary fabrics, they employ an extensive knowledge of the technical process. Plateaux represents a number of internationally acclaimed glass artists, placing emphasis on Eastern European glass, featuring cutting-edge sculptures by Vladimir Zbynovsky, Oliver Lesso and Stepan Pala, to name a few. The gallery not only highlights the works of renowned glass artists, but also the talent of newcomers, leading it be the gallery of choice for interior designers.

Event director William Knight says, “LuxuryMade – the first new London design show to be launched in over five years – demonstrated the vitality, strength and diversity of contemporary decorative interiors in the capital. The positive impact the show has created is already clear; exhibitors, visitors and press all acknowledging the quality of the inaugural edition and the potential of the show going forward. The feedback and experience gained in producing this year’s LuxuryMade will all inform the 2017 edition of the show, which is set to include a host of new exciting features and developments.”
