Maserati has announced the 2021 Ghibli hybrid sedan, the first model in the Italian automaker’s push toward electrification.
In perfect harmony with its DNA, Maserati has chosen a hybrid solution focused primarily on improving performance, while also reducing fuel consumption and cutting emissions. The hybrid technology exploits kinetic energy the car accumulates when in motion, recovering it and transforming it into electricity during deceleration and braking, and storing it in a battery.
All 2021 Ghiblis will feature slightly revised styling, including a new grille with bars designed to resemble a tuning fork, and taillights with a boomerang-like light signature. The Ghibli Hybrid is distinguished by blue accents found on the side vents and brake calipers. Peak output registers at 330 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, or enough to see the Ghibli Hybrid accelerate from 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds. The top speed is 158 mph.
Inside, Maserati has added a new infotainment system powered by Google’s Android Automotive operating system and featuring a 10-inch touchscreen. There’s also a new Maserati Connect app that lets you stay connected to the car and monitor any software updates.
The full LED-adaptive matrix headlamps accentuate the distinctive Maserati look while significantly improving visibility and lower energy usage. With 15 LEDs operating at full beam, these headlamps offer a 200% greater field of vision than traditional head lamps.
Maserati selected blue to represent its eco-friendly electric cars moving forward, and the hue can be found on the exterior accents, including the air ducts, brake calipers and the logo on the rear pillar. The color is also used in the interior where blue seams are juxtaposed with black leather trim.
The new Ghibli Hybrid represents the first step in a plan that will lead to the electrification of all new Maserati models. The Brand’s first all-electric cars will be the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio, scheduled for 2021.
