The French fashion designer Jacquemus showcased his SS21 collection in a physical fashion show in front of a small number of socially distanced guests.
In this “new era” of fashion shows, we have seen some live-streamed digital shows and some socially-distanced physical catwalks. Jacquemes, known for his romantic, experiential runaway shows, presented his new collection on a 600 meters long winding path catwalk in a field in the Vexin region outside of Paris.

This new collection is called L’Amour, and it certainly felt like a labor of love, as well as a superb merchandising feat. Launching the L’Amour line, Porte Jacquemus describes how his designs were inspired by “people gathered together celebrating love”.
The show featured racial diversity with 60 per cent of participants being models of color and it also embraced size inclusivity by creating a cast with all body shapes. Donning crop tops and mini-skirts, these models brought truth to Porte Jacquemus’ assertion that “a true celebration of L’Amour is universal”.

The company’s environmental consciousness was reflected in this outdoor show with models moving around sleekly in a wheat field. Last year, the brand cut back to two shows a year (in January and June), both combining menswear and women’s wear to allow it to reduce production costs, wastage of fabrics between men and women.
The SS2021 collection had dresses in cream, black, and yellow and mostly slip dresses that evoked days in the south of France. Exaggerated shirts that were cropped or featured plunging necklines, and pencil skirts with high slits. Also highlighted were new bag designs, coiled earrings and ceramic necklaces.
