On April 26, London-based Livyora Limited, a high-gloss luxury jewelry brand debuted Overture, its capsule collection of fine jewellery for India, at a glittering soirée at the British High Commission in New Delhi.
Backed by UK Trade and Investment, a government body that enables British businesses the world over, and ably supported by Mr. Barry Lowen, UKTI’s director in India, the launch turned the spotlight on this new-age fine jewellery brand that has chosen to use the e-commerce route to promote, and retail, it’s beautiful jewels.
The debut collection is inspired by royal Mughal architecture. Each piece, an abstract interpretation of a structural or decorative element from an architectural form that’s highly evolved and stunningly beautiful, is set in resplendent gold, and embedded with sparkling diamonds and sumptuously toned rubies, sapphires and pearls.
Founded by three intrepid entrepreneurs – Chirdeep Chhabra, Shefaly Yogendra and Tarudeep Vaid, the brand plans to retail online, and through private views and events. We speak to Chirdeep Chhabra, the CEO of Livyora Ltd. The entrepreneur, investor, mentor, and business technology professional has over a decade of experience in building great products, passionate teams and profitable businesses. Chhabra brings his unique design thought process and his solid grasp on technology to the business.
What inspired Livyora?
We are inspired to create stories that evoke emotions and memories, which just get better with time
Can you give us the career background the founders come from?
The company was founded by Shefaly Yogendra, Tarudeep Vaid and me. We bring complementary skill sets and experiences to the business.
While I am the founding CEO of Livyora Limited, Shefaly is Chief Operating Officer of Livyora Limited, with 18 years of experience in corporate ventures. She is an investment advisor on risk assessment and also works on due diligence. She derives her design inspiration from the culture, history, literature and architecture of the many cities she has lived in across India, besides the other countries she has spent time in. My design inspiration also comes from having lived in various cultures, and from nature. When I am not working, I am a keen hiker and trekker.
Tarudeep, the Managing Director, is a gemologist and jewellery designer with over a decade of rich experience in the industry. She has trained with the best in the trade, in global cities like Antwerp and New York. Most recently, she was the India head of Gemology Headquarters International (GHI). Earlier, she has worked with New York-headquartered International Gemological Institute (IGI). She is inspired by nature, especially its verdant beauty, and by water.
What is your design team like?
We are driven by our desire to create pieces that fit into the life stories of those who wear them, wherever they may live. We design the entire range in-house.
Are there any unique design or craftsmanship elements that you employ?
Our design ethos is among our most unique features. We want to create pieces that transcend cultures and roles, yet retain a sense of timelessness. We draw upon our team’s rich experiences and diverse interests in different creative arts to craft timeless classics and beautiful heirlooms.
How do you propose to market your collection?
Since we are primarily looking at the online business, we will concentrate on digital marketing channels, with a focused outreach plan that would include events and private viewings. Our collections are designed to be directional to fit our globally mobile customer’s life, without attempting to limit her to a culture or a geographical identity.
Do you have any retail outlet or are you planning to retail through any stores?
Livyora is an e-commerce venture but we plan to host a series of private viewings and showcases. There are, however, no immediate plans for a retail outlet.
