The Maldives’ much-loved Gili Lankanfushi reopened its doors to a secluded and sustainable paradise on September 1st, 2020.
The resort offers guests the utmost privacy in awe-inspiring natural surroundings and with just 45 spacious villas spread over three jetties. It blends ethical design, unparalleled service, and vast open-air spaces. Gili Lankanfushi has spent its unexpected closure because of current COVID-19 situation, developing its operation with new health and safety protocol and for the continuous safety of its guests, hosts and partners at the resort. The Gili Cares: Hygiene & Safety Plan is in place.
A proud eco-resort, their live-in marine biologist speaks fondly of their work to replenish the coral reefs, line by line. Each villa comes with handy bikes made from recycled wood and plastic use, like footwear, is non-existent. Buildings are constructed using sustainably-sourced plantation teak, palm wood, bamboo and palm fronds (much of which were harvested during the island rehabilitation process) in addition to recycled telegraph poles. All rooms provide organic toiletries in refillable earthenware containers, to minimize plastics use and wastage. The island’s dedicated desalinization plant provides bottled still and sparkling water for all guests.
Outdoor space includes a sparkling infinity pool and water-slide directly into the lagoon, where guests will find corals, reef fish and eagle rays drifting through the shallows. Guests can also take out the resort’s boats for tranquil days at sea. Alternatively, seven Crusoe Residences also offer complete solitude, with a private location in the lagoon, accessible only by boat. Flexible living arrangements can create one or two bedrooms, in addition to an open-air bathroom with a private coral garden, roof terrace, and sun deck with direct ocean access.
Gili is best known to many for its hospitality. 280 staff look after 45 rooms. Your own personal butler, known as ‘Mr Friday’ after Robinson Crusoe, is on speed dial and manages your (admittedly fairly relaxed) schedule. He can organize lessons, reservations and dining opportunities. The resort boasts of its repeat visitors, due to the almost family-like attachment guests develop towards the staff.
