The Ultimate Whisky Collection Part II is set to headline Sotheby’s inaugural annual Halloween spirits sale on Saturday, October 31st in London. 

The Ultimate Whisky Collection is the most valuable whisky collection ever sold at auction. In 2019, the first part of The Ultimate Whisky Collection set the record for the most valuable whisky collection ever sold at auction. This October, will offer the second part of this phenomenal collection, which will be supported by further lots from other important collectors.

Sotheby’s Wine, headquartered in New York’s Upper East Side, is a global network that offers fine wine through both retail and auction. This year, the Sotheby’s spirits sale auction, in addition to this Collection, is set to open with a new series of six classic aged single malt whiskies done in collaboration with The Macallan brand.

Digitization may also be playing a part in the fact that Sotheby’s customer base is getting younger: at its March spirits sale, 54 per cent of bidders were under 40. Also the new younger buyers  are now comfortable to bid on high-value items they may not have physically seen.

Sotheby’s will open the sale with a complete set of six whiskies, from 40 years old to the oldest whisky ever released by The Macallan, at 72-year-old. Proceeds of this one-off offering will be donated to City Harvest, a nonprofit that distributes surplus from the food industry to vulnerable people around the world. Details of this offering will be revealed on Oct. 15, to coincide with The Macallan’s official launch.
